Scholarship Information
Welcome to the Minnesota Legion Baseball Scholarship information page.
The basic amount of the Minnesota scholarship award is $500. An additional $500 is added, however, (bringing the total scholarship award to $1,000), via the Darwin Berg Memorial Scholarship -- which honors the many contributions to American Legion Baseball by Darwin Berg, longtime Minnesota State Baseball Director, who was tragically killed in a 2014 car accident. The winner of the Minnesota scholarship is automatically then considered for a National American Legion All-Academic Team scholarship, sponsored by Diamond Sports, with eight applicants being awarded $2,500 and a ninth (the "Captain") being awarded $5,000.
The National American Legion only allows scholarship applications from players who are members of teams that are sponsored by an American Legion Post. (That is, players who are members of teams that have an outside sponsor are not eligible for scholarship consideration.) Additionally, only one player from each team may submit a scholarship application.
Completed scholarship applications must be received in the Minnesota American Legion office by July 15th. Please read the scholarship application carefully to ensure that all requirements are fulfilled. Failure to submit any of the required components will result in the application being disqualified from consideration.
Any questions should be directed to Tim Engstrom: 651-291-1800, tengstrom@mnlegion.org. Submit completed applications to: Tim Engstrom Baseball Scholarship The Minnesota American Legion Room 300A 20 West 12th Street St. Paul, MN 55155
